The Johns Hopkins Hospital Launches Capacity Command Center to Enhance Hospital Operations
In partnership with GE HealthCare, The Johns Hopkins Hospital launched their Capacity Command Center to solve tough patient challenges with systems engineering, predictive analytics, and innovative problem-solving.

The system receives about 720,000 messages per day from 14 sources. That data is synthesized, processed, and analyzed to generate actionable insights. As a result, staff members and care teams know when an influx of patients is coming, which areas need more staff, the status of patients being treated, bed availability and needs, admission and discharge priorities, and other information essential for high quality care.

“The Capacity Command Center is giving front-line managers real-time information about their business,” said Jim Scheulen, chief administrative officer for emergency medicine and capacity management. “Instead of relying on old data and information, we use information that’s very active, interactive and transparent so we can make the most informed decisions for our patients and their care.“
